Pope approves miracle for canonisation of Dun Gorg

Pope Benedict XVI has approved a decree by which a miracle which was attributed to Dun Gorg Preca has been approved by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and should therefore lead to his canonisation.

This was announced by Archbishop Mons. Paul Cremona during a meeting with the members of the society founded by the saintly priest, MUSEUM held at the society's headquarters in Blata l-Bajda.

Archbishop Cremona also announced that the Pope had called upon the cardinals for a consistorium which will be held on Friday 23rd January 2007, during which the cardinals will be asked to express their opinion regarding the canonisation of five blessed persons, amongst which is Dun Gorg Preca.

On the 9th of January the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, led by Cardinal Jose' Saraiva Martins had approved the miracle which is to lead to Dun Gorg being canonised.

The miracle in question is that of the healing of a baby back in July 2001, a mere two months after Dun Gorg Preca was declared Blessed by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Malta.

The baby in question had been born with a defective liver and after an attempt for a liver transplant had failed, the conditions of the baby in question had worsened. It was at this point in time that Dun Gorg was prayed to intercede for the child and a glove which had been used during the exhumation of the saintly priest was placed on the child.

Days later the conditions of the baby improved and the liver started to work regularly. The child is now five years old and is perfectly healthy.

In July 2002 the Church Tribunal in Malta headed by Mons. Arthur Said Pullicino began to study the case it later presented to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. The documents were sealed and sent to Rome on the 19th of June 2004.
